Where one teaches, two learn
5th Bukti Negara Group Leader Convention
Breda, The Netherlands, October 1st & 2nd, 2016
Old friends re-united and new friends were made on October 1st and 2nd.
More than thirty group leaders and their assistants from all over Europe joined the 5th Bukti Negara Group Leader Convention in Breda, the Netherlands. All sharing the same motivation and working towards the same goals: to improve the technical skills, review and deepen into the program with fellow students.
With pride we can say that we are creating something unique and special in Europe!
The Unified Art
Working towards the examination in March 2017, the focus of this convention was on the complete syllabus. At a constructive way we learned more about the details of timing and balance from the best teacher one can wish for, Walter van den Broeke. Who shares his knowledge of forty years of Martial Arts experience with us; The Program of Oom Paul’s Bukti Negara in which we get more and more a taste of Oom Dolf de Vries’ Serak. We are very proud to be part of the development of this Unified Art.
A sincere teacher, in Art and life, who doesn’t need to change the technical curriculum, only develops and improves it further.
Since he is the living curriculum of his masters.
Quality beats quantity
On Saturday one group worked through the complete Calon Level, led by Ronald Hartman. As Walter’s longest student he knows exactly how to help us train to put the dots on the i.
The other group worked through the Murid Level, where Walter led them to train towards the high quality standard Bukti Negara Europe is known for; precise, distilled, organized and effective.
It showed that the curriculum is inexhaustible and gives us the opportunity to go back to our groups, prepared to reach a higher level.
Where one teaches, two learn
The second day all of us groupleaders and assistants were paired-up with a fellow student we’re not used to train with. This gave a different perspective to the techniques and different approach of the applications that can be made out of those.
As critical friends we went through the examination criteria. We helped and corrected each other with the right, positive spirit. Every fellow student has taught us something new, each with his/her own personal knowledge.
“ A critical friend is a trusted person who asks provocative questions, provides data to be examined through another lens, and offers critiques of a person’s work as a friend. A critical friend takes the time to fully understand the context of the work presented and the outcomes that the person or group is working toward. The friend is an advocate for the success of that work.”
Thanks to the reference of our goals, our teacher Walter van den Broeke, we were able to train on a high quality level. We were given a lot of beautiful material to everyone’s individual capacity. He gives us, time after time, and especially at this occasion, valuable pearls (the art) to guard. Now it’s up to us!
